Israel and Palestinians 'committed to peace'

Israel and the Palestinian Authority have issued a rare joint statement saying both are committed to peace, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dispatched an envoy to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian cabinet condemned Israeli schemes targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holy mosque, whether through digging underneath it or through daily provocative tours by Israeli soldiers in uniform and hard-line settlers, according to a press statement issued by Prime Minister Salam Fayyad’s office.
